It's a Boy!!! ...probably

So we had our sonogram on Saturday, and wouldn't ya know it, I've got a sleepy, stubborn baby. Who'd a thunk it?!?!  The whole sonogram was supposed to last 20 minutes... lucky for us the next people were late, so we got a little extra time because for 27 LONG minutes, The Fetus slept soundly with his perfect little feet crossed neatly at his ankles thus hiding all of the goods.

We have the video of the whole thing and it's mostly jiggling and poking and wiggling trying to convince the little booger to uncross his feet and show us what he's got (or doesn't got).  Right in the last 2 minutes, he gave us a little flash of his boy parts, and I swear I almost fell off the table.  I was SO sure we were having a girl, so this is very exciting news!  I'm in love with the idea of a little baby boy, so, yeah... we're pretty excited.

Here's some sono picture goodness... Cutest arm ever...

And the quick flash of his junk:

Since the flash of his goods were so quick and fleeting, we're going to get another look in a week just to make sure.  The sono lady said she was 90% sure on his boy parts, so hopefully we'll get the 100% rating next time we take a peek inside my womb.  Good times.

Random Confessions and Various Thoughts...

I am writing this from my bed... I'm in bed at 7:11pm on a Thursday.  I can't help it.  I'm happiest in bed these days.  I look forward to bedtime so much, it's slightly ridiculous. Pregnancy has done this to me.  Pregnancy has also made it such that the bed is the most comfortable spot in the house.  Everyday when I get home from work my ass is killing me.  It's like someone has been hammering on my tailbone all the live long day.  WHY?  No idea.  I'm pretty excited about tomorrow because I have to drive 2.5 hours to a meeting out in the middle of no where.  Why on earth would THAT be exciting, you ask?  I'll tell you... that means no sitting in my pain-in-the-ass office chair for 3 whole days!  Weee!

I read a lot of blogs... I actually read blogs and books instead of watching TV these days.  I catch a few sitcoms on Monday, and I've enjoyed the last two episodes of The Mentalist (which I'd never heard of before until it just caught my attention the other day... must have been a slow blog day).  I stare at a computer MUCH more than I stare at a TV screen.  I'm a reader, not a watcher I spose.

A lot of blogs I read talk about reality TV - that's pretty much the only way I know about these things.  I do not watch American Idol, The Bachelor, or any of the other popular reality shows of late. I do faithfully watch So You Think You Can Dance and very much like Project Runway.  I do, however, faithfully read the blogs that I follow even when they post on these things.  I have no idea why this is.  It still doesn't make me watch the shows.  I find that odd.  Perhaps it's not odd, but I still ponder it.

I have never ever watched an episode of Jon and Kate + 8.  I've caught the opening a few times, but immediately changed it so I can keep my streak alive.  I bet I even spelled the name of that show wrong.  In fact, I kinda hope I did.

I have a friend who will not get on Facebook and who will not accept text messages on her phone.  How are we supposed to keep up with each other, I ask you, dear Internets, HOW?!?!

We find on on Saturday if we're having a boy or a girl.  I can't freakin' wait.

I like books that have dragons and magic in them.  Recommendations welcome.

This has only taken me 11 minutes to write.  The sun is still up... I can't go to sleep when the sun is still up, dangit.  Sigh...

Snore... zzzz....

I'll go ahead and stop now.

SMB - Last Thing and Mouth

SMB was brilliantly talented, and since I've been thinking about her pretty much non-stop this week, I thought I'd share some of her talent with the blog world. Click here to hear one of SMB's songs, "Last Thing" ... Written and performed by SMB. Pure brilliance.

Here's a video of SMB playing one of her songs, "Mouth" at CGBG's in New York back in 2003.

An amazing talent.  That is all,

One year ago today...

One year ago today, I got a phone call that changed my life. SMB's mom called and told me that SMB was gone. I cannot believe an entire year has passed. In some ways it seems like we were just dress shopping for my wedding and in other ways it seems like SO MUCH has happened that she should have been a part of.

It's so strange what can change in a year. On this exact day two years ago, SMB and I were basking in the sunny wonderfulness on a beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic without a care in the world. On this exact day one year ago, I lost that friend. Today, I'm married and pregnant. If we have a girl, she will have the same middle name as SMB.

Over the past year, SMB's mom has been writing a book about her life with and without SMB. It's a beautiful and heart-wrenching story. MommaM (that's SMB's mammy) has graciously let me be her editor. It's hard and wonderful to be involved in the project... One day when it's published, I hope everyone and their dog will read it, and love SMB as much as we do. I think that the book has helped MommaM and me in many ways. We have a really good reason to think about, talk about, and write about SMB's life - all the good and the bad stuff. I'm going to post an excerpt here soon. I haven't decided EXACTLY what to preview to my 6 readers, but I'm leaning toward her beautifully written Prologue.

In the meantime, here's one of MommaM's favorite pictures of SMB, one that I took while we were probably not very sober in the Dominican Repbulic 2 years ago...
But really... we were ONLY 29 at the time, and from what I understand, jumping on the bed while semi-intoxicated is perfectly acceptable.  At least it was when you were living it up with SMB because no fun was off limits.  I miss all of the fun.  I miss my friend.
The vacation self portrait... on of many, but this one has both of our entire heads in it.  Good job us!

16 Weeks

This last Friday was week 16 of my pregnancy.  We find out if I'm growing a penis or a second va jay jay in EXACTLY 12 days and I cannot freakin' wait.  I'm also looking forward to the 20 week milestone so I can think kindly to myself that it's half way over.

Other than my ever-expanding waistline, nothing much to report.  I have been having the nuttiest pregnancy dreams.  Last night, for example, I had a dream that we had a baby girl, and I didn't know what BigAC had named her, so I kept calling her "it."  During the dream I kept trying to breastfeed "it" while changing her diaper which wasn't working out for me.  At some point during my dream, my nameless baby turned into my furry dog Sophie.  Creepy.

So here's the photo of me "faking it"... the one we'll show the kiddo perhaps someday:
And here's the one that more clearly illustrates how I've felt for the past 16 weeks...
You may notice the Christmas decoration still on the door knob... Not entirely sure why it's still there, but we're just going with it.  Also, I had enough foresight to wear clothes that somewhat matched and don't have a pajama pant string hanging out of the front.  But I do blend with the chair, so enjoy the game of guessing where my ass ends, and where the chair begins.  Good times!
