Honeymoon Day 2: Wow!

Day 2 started out being woken up about 3:30am Hawaii time by a rooster!  They're freakin' everywhere around here.  We later learned that they're called Nene.  Our cottage doesn't have any AC (don't need it really) but you do sleep with the windows open which kinda makes me want to eat fried chicken for dinner.

We couldn't see anything when we arrived last night, so what a brilliant sight to wake up to.  It's seriously the most amazing thing I've ever seen.  This place is just beautiful.  Our cottage is a restored sugar plantation cottage from the 1800's so it's rustic and quite relaxing.  Mix that in with the ever-present Hawaiian music, and we're set!

Here's our cottage:

And this is the part of the view from those two cozy little chairs:

And here's the beach front... It's about 50 yards outside of our room and you can totally hear the waves at night.  It's a black sand beach... not good for swimming they say, but it's certainly easy on the eyes:

We got up this morning and went to have breakfast at this cute little cafe called the Hanapepe Cafe and Bakery.  We totally pigged out on homemade quiche and frittata and the best breakfast potatoes we've ever had.  We also had a sticky bun that was made with macadamia nuts and island honey and it was probably the best thing I've ever eaten... yet.  We also had fresh fruit and yogurt and granola.  Yeah... We're still full.   It had been quite a few hours since we'd eaten anything, so we really packed it in.  The owner was a cute lady who told us she was glad to see us so early.  We went about 9am HI time and explained that we were still on TX time.  She said that the Island doesn't start waking up until around 10am.  My kind of place!

After breakfast we went to a little market to procure some sundries like bottled water and sodas for our fridge so we don't end up in the same no drink having predicament we were in last night.  Our next stop was to a little Internet Cafe to print out our tour stuff and to make sure we didn't have anything booked for today.  After that we decided to take the top off the Jeep and drive up to Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park.  Ho. Lee. Crap.  I cannot even begin to explain how beautiful this place is.  Waimea Canoyon is compared to the Grand Canyon, on a smaller scale, but no less spectacular.  Here... I'll prove it!

Don't fret, I'll send out all of the pictures.  After a few hours of driving on a road that looked like this on the GPS: WMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMW, we were ready to get on more level ground.

We went back to the cottage for a pit stop and I ended up taking a little nappy pooh while BigAC read, then it was off to the local Lihu'e Wal-Mart for another camera memory card.  I forgot to pack my camera cord, so it's being shipped overnight by my awesome house sitting duo.  Thank goodness for house sitters!  While we were at Wal-Mart we found a little USB card reader that we picked up which made these pictures possible.  What did we do before Wal-Mart came to every corner of the world?  Crappy, but convenient for us today.

Next was lunch at Poipu Island Burgers where I fed some french fries to our audience of birds who were occupying the 3rd chair at our table.  Note to self: don't feed the birds.

We then stopped at Jo Jo's Shave Ice for a lovely sweet treat.  Not entirely sure why they call it Shave Ice here (instead of Shaved Ice), but it was quite delicious.  We've passe 8 or 9 of these Shave Ice places, so I think we'll have to try them all!

Now the sun is setting, and we're going to go have some dinner at the restaurant and brewery that is next to the main house of our cottages.

Tomorrow is a helicopter tour of the island and we'll explore the North side of the island... Woweee woo hoo!

I'll update again when I feel like it!

I should tell you all that I miss you dearly, but who are we kidding?!?! We're in paradise.  Much love!

Aloha and Mahalo (aka That is all),
SBC
