Could the announcers BE any more annoying? Last night we were watching the Women's volleyball finals, and it was raining. They said, no less than 196 times, "The longer the ball is in play the wetter it's going to get." REALLY? No shit... I've never been in rain (what is that? Is it Kool-Aid falling from the sky??) before... I really had no idea that the longer an object was IN the rain the wetter it would get. Sheesh.
Then again tonight in the sad sad sad relay races... The brilliant announcers said about 74.5 times (a little less relay races are much shorter than volleyball games, you see) that... You cannot pass the baton unless the runners CLOSE their hand around the baton. REALLY? So THAT's how opposable thumbs work. Glad that mystery was solved. BigAC and I were waiting for them to make the astute observation that the longer they ran in the rain with the baton the wetter it was going to get.
Unfortunately for the US track and field folks, they didn't have the same luck as that kick-ass women's Volleyball team we've got. And when I say ass... yeah... you all know what I'm thinking. Who planned the white swimsuits for the rainy weather? I'm fairly certain there are thousands of prepubescent boys (and girls for that matter) sling-shotting right on into puberty with every ass close up in those games.
And the diving announcer... that lady... no idea who she is. She just rubs me the wrong way, and I don't know why. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that these divers are standing on their hands, three stories up, then flipping 8 times with 5 full twists and they make a splash and this lady just says, "No. ...No, no, no, no, no. That is not what you want to do in the Olympics." Really? I'd give my left nut (provided I had one, of course) to be able to do a belly flop in the Olympics. I'm sure she's got 19 gold medals draped around her neck while she's saying that, but whatever. She's irksome.
I think I'm just annoyed by the sad absence of Michael Phelps... and Shawn Johnson... and Nastia. Those were the days. Ohhh last week you seem so far away now. I think I'm starting into the post Olympic depression already. Good thing all the fun shows are coming back...
In other news, I saw by some random Myspace blog reading that Ryan Adams was coming to town. I cannot tell you how excited I was to see that. It just so happened that the pre-sale started today! I grabbed my trusty credit card to buy tickets while calling AnxietyGirl to spread the good word. We're going to see Ryan Freakin' Adams. We've been waiting for this for a few years now. SMB gave AG and I Ryan Adams... she introduced us. It's not fair that we are going without her, but it will be a nice night to remember good times to great songs... And since Ryan Adams is awesomely depressing music, maybe nobody will think it's odd that AG and I are standing and crying on each other the whole time.
That is all,
SBC
